A Level Film, Creating My Short Film

Image
A Level Film, Creating My Short Film (Coursework) I will be creating a short film between 4-5 minutes in length, I will be using a narrative which establishes and develops a single character. Working Title: The Canvas. The narrative will follow a artist as he express his inner emotions of depression and madness as he delves into the dark corners of his mind to create a piece of art, ending the film on the exhibition of the art work. My genre will follow that of a psychological horror with an experimental style using black and white colours to create a dark narrative tone pulling references from the short films: The Grandmother (1970), 33 minutes,  use of low key lighting and dark background to convey determination of a characters mental state, using a similar setting to German Expressionism to explore my characters inner psych. Swimmer (2012) 16 minutes, use of exaggerated mise en scene and unconventional narrative to convey a characters inner demons, as I will be expre

City of God Question

"Explore how a deeper analysis of cinematography and/or the aesthetics techniques can deepen a contextual understanding of chosen films" The scene uses cinematography in order to deepen contextual understanding as we watch the same long shot of the apartment through different periods of time at first the camera is placed far away from the criminal activity of Dona Zelia. The first apartment owner as we see her grant sexual favours in the bedroom of the apartment, the camera is between a door at this time showing the distance crime has on the apartment itself which links with the current un crime-ridden Reo at this time. This is also supported by the use of mise en scene in the scene, the setting as we see the apartment is decorated like a family home, with the use of props and the setting we see a table decorated with a table cloth and the walls having pictures and decorations like a family home would. This is due to Dona Zelia's reason or crime being to provide for he

Documentary Filmaker Analyse (Nick Broomfield and Kim Longinotto)

Nick Broomfield and Kim Longinotto Nick Broomfield A documentary film maker known for his performative mode style as he highlights the synthetic nature of documentaries and there subjectiveness and in turn uses evocation effects and drama to engage the audience. He channels the ability to reveal the true aspects of his interviewees creating an impactful atmosphere that make the audience side with him as the voice of truth as he reveals the nature of those in his documentaries. Usually follows the life of a celebrity who has either met a cold/tragic end or a monster we the audience can target easily as the "bad guy". This is shown by him making two documentaries about the tragic lives and ends of Whitney Houseton and Kurt Cobain with his documentaries Whitney: Can I be me (2017) and Kurt and Courtney (1998) and the monsters he documented can be seen in both documentaries on Aileen Wuornos (Aileen Life and Death, 2003 and Aileen Wuornos the selling of a serial kill

Pan's Labyrinth Assignment How Do Film Techniques Create Meaning?

Pan's Labyrinth Assignment   How Do Film Techniques Create Meaning?  Pans Labyrinth (2006) Directed by Guillermo del Toro stars Ivana Barquero as Ofelia In falangist Spain in 1944 as she and her mother  (Ariadna Gil)  reunite with her cold officer stepfather (Sergi Lopez) which she attempts to escape from by going into a world of fantasy. Mise-en-scene (M.E.S) and Cinematography are used to convey a multitude of meanings in the film in this particular piece of work I will be analysing from one scene in the film and breaking down its meanings conveyed using these techniques. The Death Of Dr Ferreiro 1.14.42 to 1.21.18 M.E.S is used in this scene to convey the mood and tone of the scene such as the pathetic fallacy of the rain in the setting when Dr Ferreirio (Alex Angulo) is woken up to help medicate a captured rebel after intense torture, the rain symbolises the sadness/despair of the doctor as we see throughout the film how his character despises the actions of

2007 to 2009 Events That Effected British Cinema

2007 to 2009  Events That Effected British Cinema Gordon Brown had taken over as priminster of the uk after Tony Blaire unlike Tony, Gordon was disliked by the people due to lack of charisma and the labour party being blamed for British involvement in Iraq after following the Americans which cost the lives of many British soldiers. This may explain the release of films like Hot Fuzz (2007) which was a satirical comedy of police in England in a time were government officials were seen as not knowing what they were doing (Gordon Brown). Due to the labour government many changes where made in paramount that effected the working class like; The Welfare Reform Act (2007) Changes to provision of Housing Benefit Origianlly housing benefit is sent directly to landlords, not the tenants. The Act changed this so that rent money is paid to the tenant who will then be expected to pay this to the landlord. One of the stated motivations for this change is that it will give tenants a

Trainspotting Clip Analyse

Trainspotting Clip Analyse 43 to 48 minutes in the film "Renton's Last Hit" In this clip M.E.S (Mise en Scene) is used to show inescapable cycle of addiction as he is shown as being in high key light which is often used to show positive emotions in films for example Bruce Almighty (2003) which uses high key lighting to project a light hearted and happy tone in the film due to its comedy genre. But possible this high key light becomes false because this film uses some social realistic conventions to convey Thatchers Britain which means it wouldn't follow these common troupes/conventions of the lighting conveying a characters happiness and that Renton is just as lost and damaged in the light as he is in the dark. As he climbs on the wall to escape his family and friends with the sky above him he then jumps back into his old drug filled life as the scene jump cuts from him dropping off the wall and straight into mother superiors drug den which has low key re

Trainspotting Context Reseach Task

Trainspotting Context Research Task Margaret  Thatchers England 1979 to 1990 was the prime minister for the uk. This was devastating for the working class of these years especially in Scotland due to her introduction of the poll tax, the reason behind this pole tax being one of the most damaging legislations past to the lower class of the UK was because it was an even tax for all meaning if you had a giant mansion owned multiple cars and had a multi million company you would still pay an equal amount to people who lived in a one room flat, made the rich pay less and the poor pay more rather than increasing or lowering the tax depending on your income and living conditions. Scotland hated this in particular because they were put on the poll tax before anyone i the UK to test the system which lead to the events we see in Trainspotting people losing there lively hood and turing to drugs and crime to find there way in the pulverising Thatcher government which not only increased the
